Green Disciples

What are Green Disciples?

Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’ (Genesis 1:26)

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created… all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church… (Colossians 1:15 – 18a)

Green Disciples recognise their calling from God to care for His world. The environment is in crisis. Overwhelming evidence of a climate emergency is recognised across the world.  Christians are, in community with those of other faiths and none, beginning to realise that we all have a part to play in restoring the environment.

This is also a justice issue. The poor and marginalised suffer disproportionately from climate change and environmental damage, and have often done the least to contribute to it. As Christians we must take the words of Jesus to love God and love our neighbour seriously, and take action.
