Three Cheers for Christmas! – Riding Lights Theatre @ Beeston Methodist Church at Chilwell Road
Dec 1 @ 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm

Three Cheers for Christmas! performed by Riding Lights Theatre
The Riding Lights Theatre Company presents a ‘BUMPER new play, Three Cheers for Christmas!’ The Story-tellers bring 3 outlandish characters and their amazing animals to star in three spectacular stories. An unexpected invite to a hum-dinging party teaches The Sheepish Shepherd that being different isn’t always  a bad thing. There’s comic chaos in Angel Unawares when dastardly duo Max and Tich are sent to hunt down a very special baby and A Very Astonished Astronomer discovers what makes the world go round in Zooming in to Christmas. Woven together with puppetry, music, comic silliness and plenty of interaction for younger members of the audience, this colourful cloth of yuletide yarns offers a brilliant background to the heart of Christmas.
Tickets £6 (£5 in advance), Child £2, Family (2 + 2) £12

Jan 21 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Peacock Angell
Gentle yet powerful describes the music of Sid Peacock and Ruth Angell. They create music inspired by beautiful places, great poets, down-and-outs, new arrivals and feathered friends. Traditional and original material is performed with honesty, passion, great story-telling and a high level of craftsmanship. Ruth Angell from Derbyshire and Sid Peacock from Northern Ireland marry the bright blue shores of County Down with the High Peaks and green fields of Derbyshire in this beautifully stripped-down and personal collaboration. Peacock Angell is an intimate peek into the relationship of these two strong and independent musicians. Their music is very much a reflection on the struggles of daily life, relationships, happiness and the surprise of nature and circumstance and the beauty found in everything. For this concert they are joined by Steve Tromans playing piano.
Tickets are available from the church office – 0115 9431164

Quilter and the Ghost – Arletty Theatre @ Beeston Methodist Church at Chilwell Road
Mar 10 @ 7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Quilter and the Ghost – performed by Arletty Theatre

Quilter has gathered stories for decades. Dreams and inspiring memories, stitched in to a patchwork quilt of lives. But they’re cutting down trees to build a golf course (instead of dark satanic mills), the plaster is falling off the hall ceiling, there’s a mysterious stranger lurking in her study, and people from that Facebook-thingy hiding in the rose garden… She really needs help – but how can you raise an army, when you’re alone on the battlefield?

Woven from 110 personal anecdotes about inspirational women, gathered by Arletty Theatre from the community, this play includes tales of female pirates, a Shirebrook humanitarian, a highwayman called ‘Joan’, and a veritable army of incredible grandmas. It travels all around the world with their stories, in a sumptuous tale, exploring how we overcome adversity, what makes us who we are, and how grandmas never leave us.

With Arletty Theatre’s trademark ingredients of excellent original music, movement, comedy and moving drama, this show is uplifting and inspiring. You should certainly tap in to local historical societies, quilting and crafting groups for your audience, but anyone, young or old, male or female who remembers a beloved grandma or an eccentric aunt, will be warmed by this rich story, and relive their own fond memories. They can even add them to the ever-growing quilt after the show, and they may become part of the play…
